Axis Journal of Medical and Biosocial Sciences (AJMBS)

Submissions Process

Submission and Editorial Evaluation Pathway

The Axis Journal of Medical and Biosocial Sciences (AJMBS) is dedicated to a rigorous, fair, and transparent editorial process. Published by Axis Academics Limited (UK), all manuscripts undergo a multi-stage evaluation to ensure they meet our high standards of scholarly excellence, originality, and relevance to the intersecting fields of medical sciences, biological sciences, and social determinants of health and human behaviour. The following outlines the journey your submission will take from initial receipt to final decision.

Stages of the Submission Process

Initial Editorial Assessment: Upon receipt, every submission undergoes a preliminary review by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated Section Editor. This assessment evaluates the manuscript's overall fit with the journal's scope — specifically its contribution to medical and biosocial knowledge — as well as adherence to basic submission guidelines, methodological soundness, and novelty. Submissions that fall outside the journal's interdisciplinary focus will be returned to the authors promptly.

Plagiarism and Similarity Check: All submissions undergo a plagiarism and similarity check. Manuscripts with unacceptable levels of textual overlap may be returned to the author or rejected.

Peer Review: Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial assessment and similarity check are assigned to at least two independent, expert peer reviewers. AJMBS employs a double-blind peer-review system, where the identities of both the authors and the reviewers are concealed to promote objectivity and impartiality. Reviewers are asked to evaluate the work's validity, significance, originality, clarity, and ethical compliance with ICMJE Recommendations. If major revisions are required, the revised manuscript will be sent for a second round of peer review. Multiple revision rounds may be necessary before a final decision is reached.

Editorial Decision: The handling editor consolidates the reviewers’ comments and recommendations to arrive at a final decision. Possible outcomes include:

Acceptance (with or without minor revisions)

Minor Revisions Required

Major Revisions Required (subject to re-review)

Rejection

Desk Rejection: Submissions may be declined without external peer review if they are deemed outside the journal’s medical and biosocial sciences scope, lack sufficient originality or scientific rigour, have serious methodological flaws, or do not comply with the journal’s ethical or formatting guidelines. This process ensures that authors receive a swift decision and allows our reviewers to focus on manuscripts with the highest potential for advancing biosocial knowledge.

Author Responsibilities: Pre-Submission Requirements

Prior to submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all of the following conditions have been met. Failure to do so may result in delays or rejection.

Permissions for Published Material: Authors must secure and provide evidence of written permission to reproduce any copyrighted material included in the manuscript. This encompasses photographs, figures, tables, extensive text excerpts, datasets, and any other ancillary materials that are not the original creation of the authors. All reused materials must be clearly credited.

Consent of All Authors: Every individual listed as an author must have made a significant intellectual contribution to the work, approved the final version of the manuscript, and consented to its submission to AJMBS. The journal requires confirmation that all co-authors agree to be identified as such and that no eligible author has been omitted.

Ethics Committee Approval: For any research involving human participants, human tissue, animal subjects, or sensitive biosocial data, authors must provide a statement confirming that the study was conducted in accordance with the relevant ethical standards and legal requirements of the country of origin. Documentation of formal approval from an institutional or national ethics review committee must be available upon request. Studies addressing social determinants of health must also comply with applicable data protection and privacy regulations.

Submission Preparation Checklist: A Mandatory Guide

To facilitate a smooth submission process, please use the following checklist to confirm your manuscript is ready for consideration.

Guideline Adherence: The submission fully complies with all stylistic and bibliographic requirements detailed in the AJMBS Author Instructions.

Statement of Originality: The work is confirmed to be original, has not been published previously in any form (in whole or in part), and is not currently under consideration for publication by any other journal.

Reference Verification: All references and citations have been meticulously checked for accuracy, completeness, and correct formatting as per the Vancouver style. Each in-text citation corresponds to an entry in the reference list and vice versa.

Figure and Table Presentation: All figures (graphs, charts, photographs) and tables are embedded in the text at the appropriate points, are of high resolution and clarity, and are numbered sequentially with descriptive captions and legends.

Permissions on File: Written permissions for all reproduced material have been obtained from the copyright holders and are ready for submission to the editorial office if required.

Structuring Your Manuscript for Success

A well-prepared manuscript facilitates a more efficient review process. Please pay particular attention to the following elements:

Title and Abstract: Craft a concise, informative, and specific title that accurately reflects the content of your paper. The abstract must be a self-contained summary of your entire study, outlining the background, objectives, methods, key results, and conclusion without the need to reference the main text. For biosocial research, the abstract should clearly indicate how biological and social dimensions are integrated.

Research Narrative and Methodology: Ensure your research argument is logical, coherent, and clearly articulated from the introduction through to the discussion. The study design, materials, and methods must be described with sufficient detail to allow for the replication of your work by other researchers. A clear and robust methodology is fundamental to a positive peer review, particularly in interdisciplinary medical and biosocial research.
